Reasons why King Henry VIII changed the Church of England
Reasons as to why King Henry VIII changed Roman Catholic Church was because he wanted to
divorce his wife because she could not bare him a child, so he asked the pope if he could do it, but
the pope declined. Because of the Roman Catholic Church's beliefs and actions King Henry was
unable to do so, as it was against their faith. King Henry decided to find a way to do it, he
separated the Church of England and became head of the Church of England, and changed the
laws of the Church.
Another reason as to why King Henry VIII did this was because he was over committed to getting
power. Even though he was already a huge figure with lots of power, he wanted more. One way to
get this extra power was to make himself head of all the Churches in England. Doing this all, he
even put in additions to the faith, which were then consolidated in the record of the Holy Roman
Church and also was given credibility.
King Henry also did this because if he were to be divorced by an Archbishop he would have been
excommunicated. Being excommunicated back then was a major deal as it would mean your soul
would burn for eternity in hell, this was something Henry truly believed, which of course led to him
having his own church. The country was also bankrupt at the time so, since King Henry was in
charge he could close down the Catholic Churches and receive the money collected by them.
Those who lived in the Church were given temporary housing.
